Beryl nears hurricane strength

Latest advisory from the National Weather Service says Tropical Storm Beryl is nearly a hurricane. Tropical storm conditions, the National Hurricane Center says, have reached the coast.

While many in the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida are bemoaning how Beryl has  ruined Memorial Day weekend plans, some folks actually welcomed the storm with open arms. A minister, who is also a surfer, held Sunday services on the beach at Daytona Beach.  Before riding the big waves Beryl was delivering.

But in Jacksonville, the mayor is asking residents to heed storm warnings and stay inside.
