Coffee’s medicinal qualities

Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages, but the association between coffee consumption and the risk of death remains unclear.

A new study, published in today’s New England Journal of Medicine, suggests coffee actually lowers the risk of death.

Researchers examined the association of coffee drinking with subsequent total and cause-specific mortality among 229,119 men and 173,141 women. Participants with cancer, heart disease, and stroke were excluded.

The study found that the risk of death was decreased among coffee drinkers. However, that only holds if you don’t smoke.

The researchers discovered that coffee drinkers were also more likely to smoke. And we all know the adverse health effects of that.

Typo error? There are two conflicting statements about good or bad.effects.
I think you meant… **The study found that the risk of death was REDUCED among coffee drinkers. However, that only holds if you don’t smoke.**
