WASHINGTON – President Obama announced Thursday that he has accepted the resignation of his commerce secretary, John Bryson.

Bryson was involved in a pair of strange car accidents near Los Angeles earlier in the month that were attributed to a seizure he suffered while behind the wheel. The White House initially did not provide many details regarding Bryson’s condition, saying only that he was taking a temporary leave of absence.

Dr. Rebecca Blank, who served as acting commerce secretary prior to Bryson’s appointment last year, will again fullfill that role while the White House begins another search for a permanent replacement.
