WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama holds a surprising 13 percent lead over Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney according to a new poll conducted by Bloomberg News.
Obama holds 53 percent support while Romney trails with 40 percent. The margin represents a significantly stronger lead than any recent poll has given the president.
Despite Obama’s apparent advantage, 60 percent of respondents said that the U.S. is on the wrong track and an additional 60 percent say they disapprove of how the President is handling the deficit.
Romney, however, was viewed by more respondents as “out of touch” compared to the President, with 55 percent citing Romney and 36 percent naming Obama.
The poll was conducted by Iowa polling firm Selzer & Co. between June 15th and 18th among 1,002 adults.
