Bachmann’s Muslim Sisterhood conspiracy therory

WASHINGTON – For those not up to speed on the most recent conspiracy theorizing to come out of Washington, it comes in the form of Rep Michele Bachmann (R-MN). She claims that Huma Abedin, a senior aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and a Muslim, might very well be a Muslim Brotherhood spy sent to influence the highest levels of America’s foreign policy. This, because her father (who died when she was a teenager), her mother and and brother are allegedly “connected” to the Muslim Brotherhood – she has no evidence for this, but demands an “investigation”; this despite the fact that women don’t get to zoom to the top in the Muslim Brotherhood.
Bachmann has written to State, along with four other conservative Republican members of Congress including Rep. Trent Franks and Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (GA), Rep. Louie Gohmert. Bachmann, in a separate letter, asks how Abedin, (who’s married to former Rep Anthony Weiner, a Jew), received her security clearance. ”I will not be silent as this administration appeases our enemies instead of telling the truth about the threats our country faces,” she writes.
Unspoken in all this, of course, is the alleged influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in the government of President Obama, who might be a willing participant to their influence, despite his massive increase in the war on the Af/Pak border and killing of al Qaeda leadership.
Sen. John McCain took to the Senate floor to denounce Bachmann – and opened the floodgates for Republicans to follow. Rep. Mike Rogers, the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, on which Bachmann sits, was described by several sources as incredibly angry. Sen. Lindsey Graham said he’s traveled the world with Abedin and said the attacks on her are “ridiculous.” House Speaker John Boehner said he doesn’t know Abedin but that “accusations like this being thrown around are pretty dangerous.” And Rep. Jeff Flake, a conservative lawmaker from Arizona, tweeted “Kudos to @SenJohnMcCain for his statement on Senate floor yesterday defending Clinton aide. Well said”
