Jesse Jackson Jr. suffering from ‘mood disorder’

WASHINGTON - Conflicting reports are surfacing about the condition of Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), who has been absent from his job for over a month.
NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell reports Jackson is at a clinic in Arizona where he has been receiving treatment for alcohol abuse. An aide to the congressman quickly denied that report, though, and issued a statement he attributed to Jackson’s doctor.
“‘The congressman is receiving intensive medical treatment at a residential treatment facility for a mood disorder. He is responding well.”
For weeks, Jackson’s whereabouts have been the subject of much conversation due to the fact that he has not been in Washington since June 10. One prominent House Democrat says that it’s time for Jackson to disclose his circumstance.
“Congressman Jackson and his office and his family would be well-advised to advise the constituents of his condition,” said House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).
