WASHINGTON – President Obama campaigns in Florida today on the second day of a swing. It will be tougher to win Florida in 2012 than 2008; his numbers are worse, the space industry’s in worse shape, his perceived policy of Israel hurts him, the economy is lagging and housing is an issue.
Mitt Romney campaigns in New Hampshire with freshman longshot possible vice presidential candidate Sen. Kelly Ayotte.
Meanwhile, Romney’s problems surrounding Bain Captial refuse to go away. The Los Angeles Times reports that foreign investors helped launch Bain in 1984, and most of the money came through corporations registered in Panama, then known for tax advantages and unusual banking secrecy.
Romney has not released all of his 2010 tax returns, including key documentation connected to his Swiss bank account. Sen. John McCain said that Romney’s taxes (he released 20 years to the McCain campaign four years ago) were not a factor in his not being chosen as his vice presidential running mate. Sarah Palin, McCain said, was chosen because she was a “better candidate.”
