Penn State removes Paterno statue, NCAA sanctions tomorrow
The statute of former and long-time head football coach, the late Joe Paterno, has been removed from the Penn State University campus. The decision follows an internal report authored by former FBI director Louis Freeh which says Paterno had significant information regarding the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal but took insufficient action to intervene and protect the children the former and now-convicted assistant coach was abusing.
The NCAA is expected to announce unprecedented sanctions against the university Monday. But, reportedly, will not impose the so-called “death penalty” on the football program.
