Romney addresses NAACP today

WASHINGTON – Mitt Romney is not expected to get an overwhelming reception at the NAACP convention today.
His campaign says he will focus on shared values around faith, family, free enterprise and education. The theme of the conference is “This is my power. This is my decision. This is my vote.”
But Romney’s come out in favor of the new voter ID laws that the NAACP’s been on the front lines in battling. They say they disproportionately disenfranchise minorities.
Tuesday, Attorney General Eric Holder addressed the NAACP. He vowed to aggressively challenge the voter ID laws, even going so far as to call the laws “poll taxes,” referring to fees in some states in the South that were used to disenfranchise blacks during the Jim Crow era. Vice President Biden will address the gathering tomorrow.
