Romney weighs foreign policy tour

WASHINGTON – Politico reports that Mitt Romney’s campaign is considering a major foreign policy tour that would go to five countries over three continents, and mark his first move away from a campaign message devoted almost singularly to criticizing President Obama’s handling of the economy.

He’d start with a foreign policy address at the VFW convention in Nevada, then London for the start of the Olympics \and a speech on U.S.foreign policy.  Next to Israel and a series of meetings with Israeli and Palestinian officials, then to Germany and a public address in Poland, which shares Romney’s wariness toward Russia.

Romney had considered a stop in Afghanistan but that’s now unlikely.

It’s all still in planning stages but will be finalized internally this week. He will apparently restrain his remarks about Obama when speaking abroad.

The trip’s an acknowledgement that to defeat Obama they must do more than simply hammer him on jobs. Romney’s faced criticism in recent weeks from his own party for offering few policy details and little in the way of vision.
