Biden: Romney will put you in chains
Vice President Joe Biden told a group of Virginia voters today that they’ll end up handcuffed if Mitt Romney has his way.
“They’ve said it. Every Republican’s voted for it. Look at what they value and look at their budget and what they’re proposing,” said Biden during a rally in Danville, Va. “Romney wants to let the — he said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules — unchain Wall Street…They’re going to put y’all back in chains. He’s said he’s going to do nothing about stopping the practice of outsourcing.”
Afterwards, a spokeswoman for the Obama campaign attempted to clarify exactly what Biden meant.
“If you look at the entire context of what the vice president was talking about, he was making a point that if we repeal Wall Street reform, which is what Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan want to do, we go back to the days where they write their own rules,” spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said during an appearance on MSNBC. “And we saw what happened. Taxpayers had to bail them out. We had to spend billions of dollars of taxpayer dollars bailing them out. Now, I would think that that, you know, that is a problem for middle-class taxpayers. That would hamper their ability to take care of their own finances.”
The Romney campaign, however, called on President Obama to condemn his vice president’s remarks.
“After weeks of slanderous and baseless accusations leveled against Governor Romney, the Obama Campaign has reached a new low,” said spokeswoman Andrea Saul. “The comments made by the Vice President of the United States are not acceptable in our political discourse and demonstrate yet again that the Obama Campaign will say and do anything to win this election. President Obama should tell the American people whether he agrees with Joe Biden’s comments.”
