Christie gets top billing at convention

WASHINGTON - The Republican National Committee announced Tuesday that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will give the keynote address at the party’s upcoming convention in Tampa Bay, Florida.

In a written statement, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus praised Christie’s stewardship of the New Jersey, saying that “he has fearlessly tackled his state’s most difficult challenges, while looking out for hardworking taxpayers.”

Responding to the announcement, Christie said that the Republican convention provides a chance “to make clear that if we tell each other the hard truths, tackle the big problems, and make bold choices, we will see America’s comeback,” a reference to the newly-minted title of “America’s Comeback Team” given to the Romney/Ryan ticket.

Prior to the Paul Ryan announcement, Christie was rumored to be a potential vice presidential pick. He is currently the object of a fair amount of 2016 speculation.

The Republican Convention goes from August 27th through 30th.
