Isaac the calm before the real storm in Tampa

By GARY BAUMGARTEN

There was much concern about Tropical Storm Isaac’s interfering with Day One of the Republican National Convention and, in fact, except for a 10 minute official session, nothing much happened here on Monday. It did storm. But in shifts. In between moments of calm and even sunshine.

But this is all a precursor to the real action. Speeches by Ann Romney and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie today. And of course – upcoming – Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney’s acceptance speeches.

I had a chance tp see Jon Vought, the actor and big Republican supporter (I’m hoping to score an interview with him for Paltalk today). Mitch McConnell walked by and I interviewed a number of party officials and delegates. But because of the fear that Isaac might hit Tampa head on – things were pretty much low key Monday. The enthusiasm is expected to be ratcheted up today.
