Obama leads in key swing states

WASHINGTON - A new poll from Quinnipiac University shows President Obama leading Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, three key states considered up for grabs this November.
In Florida, Obama leads by 51 to 45 percent and in Pennsylvania Obama comes ahead 53 to 42 percent. The president holds a smaller advantage in Ohio, where he tops Romney by 50 to 44 percent.
Peter Brown, the assistant director of Quinnipiac’s Polling Institute, notes that Obama holds a stronger lead in the three swing states than he does countrywide, a situation he attributes in part to the fact that unemployment is lower in the states than the national average.
“In Florida it has been dropping over the past year, while nationally that has not been the case,” Brown said in a statement.
The poll was conducted with CBS News and the New York Times between July 24th and 30th. The survey included 1,177 respondents from Florida, 1,193 from Ohio and 1,168 from Pennsylvania.
