Walker, Cruz to address GOP convention

WASHINGTON  - Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Texas senatorial candidate Ted Cruz will be among the speakers at this year’s GOP convention, Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus announced Wednesday.

Both men are popular figures among the conservative wing of the party.

Walker survived a recall election earlier this year in what was chalked up as a major win for Republicans and as an endorsement of controversial steps he took to limit public unions from collectively bargaining.

Cruz recently won a Senate primary against Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, widely considered the state’s establishment candidate. He has become increasingly popular among the Tea Party Movement.

In addition to Walker and Cruz, newly announced speakers include Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens and Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuño.

A keynote speaker has not yet been named and a number of popular Republicans, including former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, have not seen their names added to the roster.

The convention takes place between August 27th and 30th in Tampa, Florida.
