What ‘science’ backs Akin’s rape claim? [Video]
He’s apologized and he’s remaining in the race for the U.S. Senate despite pressure from Mitt Romney and other leaders of his Republican Party. But where did Congressman Todd Akin come up with his “scientific” claim that in cases of “legitimate rape” as he put it a women’s body naturally will reject pregnancy?
Apparently he is not alone in this belief.
The suggestion was originally proffered by Dr. John C. Willke, CNN reports. Willke, a medical doctor and a long-time anti-abortion activist wrote a book in 1985, since republished, in which he asserts that a rape victim’s hormones can naturally make her less fertile and prevent pregnancy.

A mispoken, due to misinformation, comment and now people are saying “all republicans feel this way” so if this is the case I guess all democrats think republicans want to “put you all back in chains”? I don’t really understand this one sided tactic. Why is it Romney/Ryan are continually hounded by this Akens comment, and he apologized, but Obama gets a pass on Biden. And Biden isnt a one time incident. As for the word “legitimate” being used, this was very understandable because many many women will consent to sex then suddenly declare they were raped. It’s happened many times. Granted Aken didn’t say it just the right way.
Perhaps if someone had the guts to move Akin off the ticket instead of letting him flounder in his own stupidity, the Republican party would not be tarred with the same brush. Out of interest is the Dr still allowed to practice ?
For a woman to argue that women cry rape as a matter of course after consenting to sex is sad. Consent to sex does not mean you consent to another person being able to determine what you will or will not accept. There are many instances where women find themselves in a very different position to the one they consented to,
No means no regardless of when it is uttered.
