ROMNEY’S LONG, HARD ROAD TO THE ELECTION

By LEE GAREN

Here is my take on the outcome of this election – it is lenghty but the road to election day is full of potholes that have to be filled as the campaigns move on.  It’s not an easy short explanation.

I see a hard fight ahead.

The numbers in the polls are so close – only points apart but the last one I saw showed Romney ahead 47% to 43% and that was AFTER Clinton’s speech which surprised me a great deal.  I really expected Obama to move ahead a couple of points.

Four days ago they were both at 45% each.  Romney is showing an increase in approval by female voters and Obama, who targeted women voters along with Michelle Obama, is seeing a decline in their approval in at least one poll.  The opposite of what they had hoped for.

As far as any big differences now that the party conventions are over – neither candidate has realized any significant changes in the polls.  They’re still very close.

That brings us to a dilemma.  What needs to change in their approach to voters?

Voters are tired of  the bull and I think they are worn out from all the infighting and mudslinging.  No one knows what to believe anymore.  The campaigns are going to have to stick to true and proveable statistics.  The public will no longer allow the wool to be pulled over its collective eyes.
There is an exception to that and that is those die-hard Obama supporters who wear blinders.  Nothing will change their minds.

If the campaigning sticks to the record, and the truth, Obama will slide more in the polls.  If Romney can get Democrat’s accusations that he will ”gut Medicare”  corrected and get it across strongly as well as convincing voters he will dump Obamacare then in the end, Mitt Romney stands a good chance of becoming our new president.

With 23 million people out of work at this moment Romney has to convince the voters that he will provide jobs IN America.  The Democrats, namely Joe Biden, said last night that Romney will  provide new jobs but they will all be outsourced overseas.  Such a bold lie but still emblazened in the  minds of those who heard it.

The ball is now in Romney’s court to correct that accusation as well.  Take care of those two grossly misquoted “facts” at the DNC and Romney can clinch the election. But remember, he is the newcomer.

Three presidential debates are scheduled and Romney had better be well prepared for them with proveable ammunition and he’ll knock Obama out of the box!  Still a ways to go until Election Day in November but the clock is ticking and the voters are ticked off!

The big thing though, which is not so predictable, is the turnout.  If people get so fed-up and many decide NOT to get out and vote, there is a possibility that Obama could win because his die-hard supporters will definitely go to the polls.  So, it is more important than ever that America gets out the vote!
