COPS RAID SLUMS OF RIO

Police cleared parts of Rio de Janeiro of drug traffickers and criminals as the city prepares to host the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics.

The shantytowns had been ignored by police for years. But the upcoming world events has prompted them to conduct raids like this to give visitors a more pristine image of the city.
