WASHINGTON - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney criticized September’s relatively strong jobs report Friday, saying that the .3 decrease in unemployment and 114,000 new jobs doesn’t represent “real recovery.”
“We created fewer jobs in September than in August, and fewer jobs in August than in July, and we’ve lost over 600,000 manufacturing jobs since President Obama took office,” Romney said in a statement. “If not for all the people who have simply dropped out of the labor force, the real unemployment rate would be closer to 11%.”
Romney added that if elected he will create 12 million new jobs and guarantee rising income for all Americans.
Coming the month before the presidential election, the new job numbers have widely been viewed as a positive for Obama. The unemployment rate is at its lowest since 2009.
