WHY ARE GAY PEOPLE BEING TARGETED IN NEW YORK CITY?

It’s 2013. Gay marriage is increasingly gaining support across the country. More people who would otherwise hide their homosexuality are feeling comfortable coming out of the closet. New York City, which has one of the largest concentrations of openly gay people in the United States, is known for its tolerance. But recently, there have been a rash of gay bashing incidents in the Big Apple. And the latest has had deadly consequences.

A man shot to death in Greenwich Village, which is not exactly an area where it’s unusual to see openly gay people. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says the suspect, who cops nabbed, openly taunted the victim for his sexuality with homophobic comments before opening fire.

A sergeant first class in charge of sexual assault prevention at Fort Hood is under investigation for sexual assault, just a week after the head of the Air Force’s sexual assault prevention program was arrested for sexual assault . Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel reacted with “frustration, anger and disappointment over these troubling allegations and the breakdown in discipline and standards they imply,” said Pentagon spokesman George Little. The unnamed soldier is being investigated for abusive sexual assault, pandering, assault and maltreatment of subordinates, also forcing a subordinate into prostitution. No charges yet filed. He’s been suspended from all duties .

It always comes to this following a major tragedy. What to do with the place where it occurred?

After the World Trade Center bombings there were those, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who argued the space should be turned into a memorial park. The value of the land won over, of course, and the site is being rebuilt.

Just last week, an advisory panel suggested to the Newtown Connecticut school board that the Sandy Hook Elementary School, site of a massacre of students and staff, be torn down and a new school built in its place. The cost: in the 10s of millions of dollars.

Now, in Cleveland, a proposal, not just to tear down Ariel Castro’s house of horrors where he held girls, now freed women, captive for a decade or more. But that it be burned down. Is this a fitting end to that house?

He’s been charged in the kidnapping of three woman. And will be charged with rape as well. And he may also be charged with murder or manslaughter for the alleged forced miscarriage of children who he allegedly fathered. That’s why the prosecutor in Cleveland is talking about making Ariel Castro face the death penalty.

BOSTON BOMBER BURIED

The AP reports that Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev has been buried. But where the body was interred is not being disclosed. A funeral home had accepted Tsarenav’s body. But was having difficulty finding a cemetery that would accept it for fear of vandals and protests.

JODI ARIAS GUILTY OF 1ST DEGREE MURDER

Jodi Arias has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of Travis Alexander, her former boyfriend. Alexander was stabbed repeatedly, shot and nearly decapitated five years ago. Arias says she killed him in self-defense after he attacked her, but the grisly slaying caused even some anti-domestic violence advocates to doubt her case. Here’s more from CNN.

Arlington County prosecutor Theo Stamos said Wednesday that her office has taken cases against the military in the past and sees no reason to turn over the latest simply because it is a more high profile legal matter.

The Virginia attorney who has been assigned as the prosecutor in a military sexual abuse case will not be turning it over to the Air Force as they have requested.

Anthony Castro, 31, exclusively told MailOnline that Gina DeJesus could have been abducted from a busy Cleveland street almost 10 years ago because she knew him as her friend’s father.
