An Alabama high school student was was placed in in school suspension and told to read Huckleberry Finn claims she was beaten by a school police officer and carted off to jail for falling asleep in the classroom. The girl, whose lawyers claim suffers from a sleep disorder and other medical conditions that contributed to her dozing off, is now suing the school, the police and the city.

President Obama firmly spoke out against sexual assault in the military Tuesday, saying that he expects more to be done to combat the practice.

UN human rights investigators have testimony from victims, doctors and field hospitals in Syria. Carla Del Ponte, commission member, said there are “strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof of the use of sarin gas, from the way the victims were treated.”

“This was use on the part of the opposition, the rebels, not by the govt authorities,” she said. Carla Del Ponte is a former Swiss attorney general who also served as prosecutor on the international criminal tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
